I’m really getting into collecting sound these days. Here is a snippet of a dog I was heckling.
I plan to make this a common feature on this blog because, frankly, I’m obsessed with my field recording device. Hopefully next time I’ll have a photo to accompany these little audio samples: dog
I’ve recently returned from a 3 week stint in my home state CA. It was that time of year (family, holidays, awkward peer reunion, bringing in the New Year, etc.) and I decided I would really explore my surroundings this time around, slow down, observe. I’ve come to realize California is a wildly strange and diverse chunk of land. (i.e. the Salton Sea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salton_sea). It seemingly encompasses every terrain, creed, and walk of life imaginable.
My girlfriend Denise and I drove a many miles…the inland empire, the desert, the Salton Sea, Los Angeles, and then up the lauded route 1 until we reached our final destination in Big Sur. These are some Polaroids we took on our little road soul quencher. Oh, and if you are ever driving route 1 in the winter try to check out the gathering of the Elephant Seals outside San Luis Obispo, they are completely ridiculous creatures. Graham was most gracious enough to invite me to post, so here goes nothin’! My best good friend Jocelyn makes papier-mache monkeys for the windows at Bergdorf Goodman. She’s been monkey-making for years, and now that I finally live in New York, I actually get to see these terrific creatures in person. This batch is from last year’s window wonderland. I haven’t had a chance to see this year’s fantastic-ness just yet. But for now…
